Citizen Consumers: Embracing the Possibility of a Democratic Food System

Service Description:

Let’s explore this idea of a Citizen Consumer and what it means to be both a citizen in a democratic society and a consumer of goods, especially the most essential good in our lives –  food.  Our food system is remarkably efficient:  Supermarkets are places of abundance and choice.  And we can purchase food online or in person at a farmer’s market.   The benefits to us as consumers in our food system are many.  Yet the costs are many as well – for people without access to nutritional foods and for farmers locked in a food system that is not democratic at all.
