Sunday FEAST: fellowship, eating, art, sharing, together

Service Description:

First Sunday FEAST (FSF) is First Parish’s version of a combination of Small Group Meeting and “Dinner Church”.  This is a service and a meal woven together to tap into what it means to be in community with one another. Unfortunately due to Covid, we will not be having FSF over a meal. But as soon as we feel it is safe to do so, we will have FSF over a shared breakfast!

For now it will be a Small Group discussion with the addition of a few short components from a typical service, such as Chalice Lighting and Extinguishing, some music and short readings.

There will not be a long message, but instead a 3-4 minute story or reading, along with a few questions to get a lightly guided conversation started. We will be using the Soul Matters monthly themes. The March theme is Renewing Faith. You will have the option to join in the conversation or just listen.  We usually break into small conversation groups and then rejoin and share a word or phrase that can be taken away. We may talk about actions that we can take as a group.

This month, instead of questions to ask yourself, we are using one of the Soul Matters Spiritual Exercises
Your Faith in Six Words
Sometimes talking about faith can wind us in circles. Ultimately, our faith is too complex, visceral, and personal to be easily shared. But some have cut through the complexity by attempting to sum up their faith using only six words. It’s a practice that clarifies and amplifies what matters most to us. It helps remind us of and hold on to our deepest commitments.
Some examples to help you on your way:
Live courageously. Think critically. Love radically.
Nobody is drawn outside the circle.
Seeing eyes, loving heart, working hands.
Life is short; eat dessert first.
Faith is a willingness to take the next step, to see the unknown as an adventure, to launch a journey. – Sharon Salzberg
Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase. – Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As you start to walk out on the way, the way appears. – Rumi
There is always light. Only if we are brave enough to be it. – Amanda Gorman
I love the recklessness of faith. First you leap, then you grow wings. – William Sloane Coffin
